The origins of our Lumbini Golden Breakfast

This special English Breakfast Tea comes from Lumbini, an exceptional tea plantation in Sri Lanka. Sri Lanka, formerly known as Ceylon, is famous for its tea which is why they are still referred to as Ceylon Tea. Lumbini is located in the village of Deniyaya around 200 km away from Sri Lanka’s capital, Colombo, towards the southern region. Tea planting in this region began to gain popularity only in the 1970s.

Teas grown in the southern region are known as low-grown teas due to their lower altitude. Lumbini, situated at an altitude of 450m above sea level, also produces low-grown teas, but with a distinctly different flavour profile compared to its neighbouring counterparts. The Lumbini Tea Valley is a place where the soil is rich and un-eroded, and rich in minerals while pure oxygen-rich air flows in from adjoining 20,000 acres of virgin rainforest Sinharaja (a UNESCO World Heritage site).

The warm ocean breeze wafts in from the Southern coast, and the Gin River, famous for its precious stones, flows through the valley below. These unique combinations of atmospheres make for one of the richest, unspoiled environments on earth.

Learn More About How this Tea Is Made

These leaves are delicately selected and plucked by hand and are twisted using "Kithul" palm wood fitted rollers, maximizing twist, and bringing out the natural essence from within the leaves. The fresh oxygen-rich atmosphere of the Lumbini Valley enhances the tea's flavour, aroma, and richness as the tea naturally oxidizes.

The goal of producing this amazing tea is to unite the elements of earth, air, light, and water to produce a cup of tea that reflects the land it came from and the heart and feelings of every person involved in the process of creating it.

The aim is to create a better world, both in and outside the cup. Within the cup, Lumbini has preserved perfection, as close to the first ‘untainted’ cup of Camelia Sinensis drunk 5000 years ago.

Ingredients

Pure Sri Lankan black tea

Tasting notes

Subtle floral and earthy notes, hints of caramel, lingering citrus, and forest honey undertones, this tea has a long-lasting aftertaste.

Region

This Breakfast tea is a unique unblended single-origin, single-estate tea produced in the Lumbini Valley. The valley's unique atmosphere makes it one of the richest, unspoiled environments on Earth. To manufacture this special tea, tea pickers wake up before sunrise to collect the freshest, youngest, dew-kissed leaves, full of medicinal value, flavour, and refreshing taste.
