What is matcha tea powder?

Matcha is a shade-grown green tea powder, stone-ground into a vibrant powder. Unlike traditional loose-leaf teas, you consume the entire leaf, resulting in a richer flavour profile and a naturally higher concentration of antioxidants.

Our range highlights the diversity of Japanese matcha tea, from smooth and delicate ceremonials to versatile matcha ideal for modern recipes.

Which Matcha to Choose?

We offer a curated selection of:

  • Ceremonial Grade Matcha – smooth, umami-rich and crafted for traditional preparation
  • Organic Matcha – sustainably grown with purity and provenance in mind
  • Imperial Grade Matcha – limited-edition, stone-milled matcha with intense umami and a sweet, creamy, velvety texture
  • Ceremonial Kuro Matcha – bold, full-bodied gyokuro matcha with cacao and nutty notes, smooth creamy texture, natural energy and focus for traditional preparation

How to Prepare Matcha (Step by Step)

Preparing matcha properly makes a noticeable difference to flavour and texture. Follow these simple steps for traditional matcha green tea powder:

  1. Sift the matcha. Add 1 to 2 bamboo spoonfuls of matcha powder to your bowl and sift to remove clumps.

  2. Pour in water at around 60 - 70°C (80°C for Kuro Matcha). Boiling water will make matcha taste bitter.
  3. Whisk correctly. Using a bamboo whisk, whisk briskly in a W or M motion until a fine, even foam forms on the surface.
  4. Adjust to taste. Drink as is or add warm milk for a smooth matcha latte.

Matcha FAQ

Matcha is a powdered green tea made from shade‑grown leaves that are stone‑ground. Unlike regular green tea, you consume the whole leaf, making matcha green tea powder uniquely rich in flavour and nutrients.

High‑quality matcha tastes smooth, slightly sweet and savoury, with an umami character and gentle vegetal notes. Poor‑quality matcha can taste bitter or flat.

Yes. Matcha contains caffeine, but it is released more gradually thanks to naturally occurring L‑theanine, resulting in calm, sustained energy rather than a sharp spike.

Matcha is naturally high in antioxidants and contains compounds that support focus, metabolism and overall wellbeing. Learn more in our Green Tea Matcha Benefits Guide.

Matcha is prepared by whisking sifted matcha powder with hot water below boiling point until frothy. Full instructions are included in the step‑by‑step guide above.
